Real-World Examples

While there is limited research on the use of Raloxifene HCL as a performance-enhancing substance in sports, there have been some real-world examples of its use. In 2016, Russian weightlifter Tatiana Kashirina, who holds multiple world records, tested positive for Raloxifene HCL during an out-of-competition drug test (WADA 2016). While she claimed the substance was prescribed to her for medical reasons, it highlights the potential use of Raloxifene HCL as a performance enhancer in sports.

Another example is the case of American sprinter Justin Gatlin, who tested positive for Raloxifene HCL in 2006 (WADA 2006). Gatlin claimed that the substance was in a medication he was taking for a shoulder injury, but the positive test resulted in a four-year ban from competition. While this case does not prove that Raloxifene HCL was used intentionally as a performance enhancer, it does raise questions about its potential use in sports.
